Lip Balm Favourites
The perfect base consists of:
26% Beeswax (healing and smells great)
37% Cocoa Butter (very moisturizing and protects from the elements)
37% Castor Oil (makes a creamy gloss)
Essential Oils or Flavour Oils
- Melt your beeswax in a heat safe, glass measuring cup (microwave) or in a stainless steel measuring cup over boiling water. When liquified, add the cocoa butter and melt. Add the castor oil and mix well.
- At this point you can add essential oils or flavour oils. Don't use much (only a few drops), as your lips are vry sensitive. Please ensure that the essential oils you use are safe to use around the lip area (some good ones are Peppermint, Lavender, and Lemon (use in small amounts, as it can be phototoxic - cause burning).
- Pour into lip balm tubes. For lip tins, add more of a liquid oil (more castor or some grapeseed or almond oil).
Salves - Great for petroleum free jelly, healing, cold & flu salves
12.5% Beeswax (healing and smells great)
62.5% Light Carrier Oil (you can get creative and infuse herbs into your oil ahead of time)
25% Castor Oil
- Melt your beeswax in a heat safe, glass measuring cup (microwave) or in a stainless steel measuring cup over boiling water. When liquified, add the other oils, melt, & mix well.
- At this point you can add essential oils (you may want to let your mixture cool a bit so they don't evaporate).
- Pour into jars (preferably glass).
Body Butters
This recipe makes a solid body butter for twist or push up tubes. To make a softer body butter for jars, add more liquid oils or use less beeswax.

Bath Bombs
These are very inexpensive to make.
1/2 cup baking soda
1/4 cup corn starch
1/4 cup citric acid (should be able to purchase at the bulk food store)
1 tsp cocoa butter or carrier oil
25-35 drops of essential oils
between 1/2 to 1 tbsp. distilled water or floral water
metal tart molds (bulk food store)
- Mix baking soda, corn starch, and citric acid in a glass bowl.
- Melt cocoa butter, add essential oils, and mix with dry ingredients (or just add the carrier oil with essential oils)
- Start by measuring 1/2 tbsp. of water, pour in and mix quickly so there is minimal fizzing. You want to ingredients to stick together when pressed. If you need more water, add a little bit at a time.
- Pack firmly into mold, then tap out onto wax paper or plastic wrap. Let dry and harden.
- After a few hours, package. Keep from getting damp again.
Note: Try adding dried herbs to your bath bombs.
